The role 

AI is moving from experimentation to real-world production systems. 

At LINKIT South Africa, we are looking for an AI Engineer who can design, build and deploy intelligent systems that operate reliably in complex enterprise environments. 

Your goal as is to support current and future AI project integrations into the cloud infrastructure (Azure). Given that the environment is in the banking sector, security and stability is of utmost importance. Some key responsibilities are: 

• Design the cloud infrastructure in a way that is secure and can run deployments reliably. 

• Incorporate continuous monitoring and evaluation to ensure the AI models in production are stable. 

• Develop smaller (and in the future, possibly bigger) AI POCs that supports the business. 

You will design and implement AI-driven applications, integrate generative AI into existing systems, and ensure models are scalable, secure and maintainable. 

From enterprise copilots to retrieval-augmented generation systems, you will help organizations translate AI potential into operational reality. 

What you will do as an AI Engineer at LINKIT 

As an AI Engineer, you sit at the intersection of software engineering and applied AI. 

You work in squads on end-to-end solutions and take ownership from design to deployment. Concretely, you will: 

• Design and build AI-powered applications and services. 
• Implement generative AI solutions (Azure OpenAI, Open Source LLMs, RAG architectures). 
• Develop and optimize prompts, embeddings and retrieval pipelines. 
• Deploy models using scalable cloud-native architectures. 
• Ensure reliability, monitoring and performance of AI systems. 
• Collaborate with data engineers, software engineers and business stakeholders. 
• Translate business problems into robust AI solutions. 

You think in systems, not experiments. 

What you bring to make impact 

• 3+ years of experience in software engineering, ML engineering or applied AI. 

• Hands-on experience with generative AI (LLMs, RAG, embeddings, vector databases) , and deploying and monitoring AI solutions in production. 

• Strong programming skills in Python (experience with FastAPI or similar frameworks is a plus). 

• Experience with Azure cloud platform and knowledge of Azure AI. 

• Familiarity with CI/CD and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes). 

• Strong architectural thinking and problem-solving skills.
